Moonshot has changed the Diamond Dynasty market by introducing another collection built around a large group of 99 OVR Red Diamond players. The release gives players plenty of new cards to chase, but the Show Shop's Deluxe, Premier, and Ultra Moonshot Packs also create an easy way to spend a large amount of MLB The Show Stubs in a short time.
For a player who has been saving MLB The Show Stubs for important collection rewards, the difference between buying packs and purchasing specific cards is worth paying attention to. The current market contains both cheap base-tier cards and extremely expensive outliers, so simply following the excitement around a new release can lead to inefficient spending.
Look Beyond the Pack Animation
The main problem with the Moonshot Packs is their expected return. Based on the supplied market analysis, the Premier version has an estimated expected value of approximately 24,715 stubs. Its purchase price is much higher, creating a negative expected value for players who repeatedly open the pack.
There is always a chance of pulling something valuable, of course. That is part of the fun of Diamond Dynasty packs. But collection planning works differently. If the goal is to reach a specific reward, relying on random pulls makes the total cost difficult to predict.
Jeff Conine demonstrates the effect of high supply. His 99 OVR card has reportedly carried a 12.5% pull rate and has fallen to around 5,554 stubs. When a card enters the market in large numbers, even a 99 OVR item can become relatively inexpensive.
Focus on the Collection Rewards
The Moonshot Collection currently has two major milestones. Collecting 23 eligible cards awards 99 OVR Craig Biggio, while collecting 36 awards 99 OVR Mickey Mantle.
The Mantle requirement looks intimidating at first, but there are 40 eligible cards in the current pool. That leaves four cards that can be skipped.
This is probably the most useful detail for budget-conscious players. A collection does not always have to be completed card by card in the order the game presents it. You can choose the combination that gives you the required number of cards at a more manageable cost.
Free Rewards Should Come First
Before using the Marketplace, finish as much Moonshot gameplay content as possible. The Moonshot Program and Moonshot Event Program III offer free rewards, including 99 OVR players such as Dave Roberts and Curtis Granderson.
These cards effectively reduce the amount of currency required to reach the collection milestones. They also give you a better idea of what you still need after the gameplay grind is finished.
Afterward, check your binder carefully. It is easy to forget about a card earned from an earlier reward path and accidentally purchase a duplicate from the Marketplace.
Cheap Cards Can Fill the Gaps
Once your free cards are secured, compare the remaining options. The supplied market figures show a large difference between some of the base-tier players.
Fred Lynn has been around 38,000 stubs, while Jeromy Burnitz has been close to 9,900. Jeff Conine has been around 5,500. Those prices make these cards much easier to consider when building a collection on a limited budget.
The exact prices will move as the Moonshot market develops, but the principle remains the same. Look at the current cost of each eligible card and determine which combination gets you to 23 or 36 cards most efficiently.
Do Not Chase Every Card
The biggest mistake would be assuming that every eligible card needs to be purchased. Chone Figgins illustrates why that can be a problem. The supplied information places the Chase 27 Pack card at roughly 698,000 stubs.
Spending that much on one card can make the entire collection significantly more expensive. Since four eligible cards can be skipped when pursuing Mantle, an expensive outlier like Figgins can simply be left outside the plan.
This also gives the market time to change. If an expensive card becomes more affordable later, you can always reconsider the purchase instead of committing your entire budget immediately.
Make the Binder Work for You
Players trying to cheap MLB 26 Stubs should approach the Moonshot Collection as a budgeting exercise rather than a pack-opening challenge. Free rewards should form the foundation, lower-priced Marketplace cards should fill the necessary gaps, and the four-card cushion should protect your budget from unusually expensive cards.
