Picture the moment: you finally have a stack of Superior Lair Keys, your build is online, and Diablo 4 gives you three tempting places to spend them. That choice matters more than another minor DPS roll. Season 14 rewards players who separate precision farming from long-term Mythic hunting, while Diablo 4 runes and other build pieces can still determine which boss pool deserves your first attention. Don't treat every Hoard like the same slot machine.
Bosses Have Jobs, Not Just Loot
Initiate and Greater Lair Bosses are still the best answer when one Unique is holding your setup hostage. Varshan, Grigoire, Lord Zir, Beast in the Ice, and Urivar offer focused pools; Andariel, Duriel, Harbinger of Hatred, and the Bloodied Butcher continue that role at the Greater tier. The Corrupted Reaper serves a different purpose: broad Mythic opportunities, seasonal reputation, and Pandemonium Fragments. Belial sits between them, offering a selected pool at the price of two Superior Lair Keys.
Your Current Need | Best Destination | Why It Fits | One build-defining Unique | Initiate or Greater boss | Focused pool means less wasted RNG | A chosen boss pool through Exalted content | Belial | You select the pool after the fight | Fragments and Mythic progress | Corrupted Reaper | One key buys several reward angles | The Two-Key Question
Belial is not a default spend. Two Reaper openings cost the same Superior Key total as one Belial opening, so you need a real reason to pick him. Spend those keys on Belial only if the selected pool contains an item that immediately changes your build's performance. Gold can also disappear fast while rerolling, upgrading, and sorting drops; if you choose to buy Diablo IV Gold, set a spending limit before a long farming session rather than draining resources on every almost-good item.
What I'd Do Before Opening a Hoard
The best farming route is less about raw luck and more about arriving prepared. From what I've seen, players lose more progress through messy key management than through bad drops. Claim your seasonal reputation rewards before farming, then run Pandemonium Ruptures and Deathtoll Chambers in batches. High Torment Chambers award at least one Superior Lair Key, which makes them the engine behind repeated Exalted runs.
- Keep ordinary Lair Keys for the exact Initiate pool your build needs.
- Use Greater Lair Keys only while a Greater boss still has a meaningful target for you.
- Save Superior Lair Keys until you can run several Corrupted Reaper Hoards back-to-back.
- Claim repeatable Glints of Hope rewards, since each one provides one Pandemonium Fragment.
- Stop increasing Torment if Chamber clears become slow or inconsistent.
The Fragment Plan Most Players Miss
Four Pandemonium Fragments pay for one Horadric Cube craft, but the input Unique controls the equipment slot rather than the exact resulting item. That's a big distinction. Before crafting, look at the Mythic possibilities for that slot and ask a simple question: would several outcomes help, or am I fishing for one miracle? A ring slot with multiple useful outcomes can be a smart gamble; a crowded slot with only one usable prize can feel rough. Don't feed the Cube your best item just because it happens to be eligible.
Clear Speed Beats Bragging Rights
The highest Torment tier isn't always the best farm. The Corrupted Reaper can award up to two Fragments depending on Torment, but a sluggish kill cuts Hoards per hour and turns every missed dodge into lost time. Pick the level where your DPS is steady, your defenses survive normal mechanics, and town trips don't break your rhythm. Finish focused Unique hunts first, shift Superior Keys into Reaper runs afterward, and let the seasonal loop do what it does best: turn consistent clears into Mythic attempts.
